Here’s a pandemic wedding advice: Embrace ‘minimalism’ | Weddings with Yankee Candle

In braving through the disruptive impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Eventcetera, a decade-old, Manila-based events company, takes its cue from the classic adage "better be prepared than sorry." Maja Montelibano, founder and creative director of the company, and her team gathered up their past experiences and used them to stay above the current crisis.

"It is part of our job to always prepare for the worst and to find another way out of a difficult situation to ensure the seamless flow of our events," said Ms. Montelibano. With relentless commitment and passion at its vanguard, Eventcetera has been providing its clients quality event styling and planning services, helping them to curate meaningful and purposeful celebrations. When it comes to weddings, the company highlights the tangible attributes of its events—all the more so the intimate details that reflect its clients' vision and personal flair.

Despite the challenges brought about by the new normal, Eventcetera continues to deliver and address the varied needs of its clients. "We make sure that we highly prioritize their overall wellbeing," Ms. Montelibano affirmed. "Our goal, primarily, is to ensure that they can celebrate their special day with their loved ones safe and protected."

What are the pros and cons of pushing an intimate wedding amid the pandemic?
Our way of mounting events is guided by the “less is more” principle. We believe that weddings are now more meaningful and cherished not because of lavish decorations or grand setups but of how personal and private couples prefer it to be. Smaller crowd means more time spent with each loved one present in the event. However, we also know that small celebrations are not for everyone and some couples would choose to postpone their weddings because they really wish to celebrate with a big crowd. This is when it becomes a disadvantage because since it's still uncertain when it will be safe again to hold big weddings, these couples may have to wait indefinitely before they can begin planning their wedding again.

Could you share some intimate wedding concepts/ideas feasible in our current situation?

Aside from keeping a small crowd, we also suggest having an outdoor celebration and taking advantage of the dry season that we're currently in. We also highly encourage our clients to make sure that everyone in attendance, including suppliers, is tested negative for COVID-19 and still complies with the imposed health and safety guidelines.

What are some wedding styles would you recommend for an intimate wedding?
Quality vs. quantity. Embracing the minimalist methods means focusing on the details and making sure that while we try to achieve extreme spareness and simplicity, we are not compromising the overall elegance and style.

For couples who are planning their wedding this year, the process may be more challenging now that we're still in this crisis but remember that you always have each other. Be mindful of each other's preference without compromising the safety of anyone involved. There is no “one-size fits all” way to plan a wedding because each couple will have their own priorities and goals. Stay true to your values and keep in mind that we're always here to assist and help you in your wedding planning journey.
