7 Interior Design Trends To Follow This New Year

As we fully ring in the new year, now is the perfect time to add more style, vigor, and comfort in various aspects of your life—career, family relationships, or even the romance department. But to be able to hop on the mule train of 2023 firmly, it’s vital to spruce up your powerhouse, where every idea and aspiration starts: your home.

In this blog, we share seven of the biggest design trends for 2023, as rounded up by the lifestyle magazine Good Housekeeping. They checked in with professional designers and industry players for their take on different interior design ideas ranging from the right colors to choose, pieces for maximalists, statement window treatments, and decorative elements that guarantee to stand the test of time.

Read on to get started on your dream kitchen, living room, bedroom retreat, or any space that needs a much-deserved refresh!

Muted Colors

The neutral, warm and cozy look will add some additions in 2023. What used to be bold colors such as plum and mustard will sprout up in more calming and much deeper tones that seem like a color found in nature. For Lisa Hayslett, founder of the Los Angeles-based design firm L.H. Designs, this year boasts the perfect season to embrace earthy colors.

Enclosed Kitchens

Many interior designers believe that 2023 is the year of enclosed kitchen spaces. While large family rooms or kitchen areas are still highly favored by many homeowners, having an enclosed kitchen space also brings about the idea of open-plan designs, especially by leaning more toward wall shelving and less built-in-looking cabinetry.

Nostalgic Design

Gideon Mendelson, founder and creative director of the New York-based interior design firm Mendelson Group, deems designs with nostalgia in mind will continue. Not only mid-century or retro, but he also points out that the idea of granny-chic interior aesthetics is evolving to a less kitschy or more sophisticated style.

Stripes

For interior designer Carrie Livingston, stripes will come back in full swing this year. They’re the original high-contrast design element, whether used in wallpaper, textiles or paint and make an unmistakably bold statement, unlike any other pattern.

Warm Woods

One of the many ways to create a more cozy space is by sprucing it up with warmer wood tones. This year, furniture pieces and fabrics that boast earthy color palettes will continue to rise.

Biophilic Designs

Looking at the rising trend in biophilic design helps us bring some of the natural world into the comfort of our homes. And if you’re thinking of adding texture and character to your living space, using natural materials such as bamboo, cork, sisal, and wood is one of the many ways to get there.

Jewel-Box Laundry Rooms

It will be a year where hard-working laundry rooms are going glam with shimmery finishes, richly patterned details, and even whimsical accessories.

If you’re searching further for decorative elements to enhance your home and make it extra comforting this 2023, Yankee Candle’s array of premium home fragrances has it all! From embellishing candles to fancy flameless fragrance options, every day is sure to be memorable and noteworthy.
